Meet the Therapist

What can regular massage therapy do for those of us dedicated to living a fitness lifestyle?
In this arena, massage therapy is much more than just a luxury. It should be regarded as part and parcel of your dedication to living a healthy life.

Research establishes that regular massage therapy...

  • improves range of motion
  • increases flexibility
  • increases circulation, which in turn will facilitate the elimination of toxins and other metabolic waste that is generated as a byproduct of resistance training
  • reduces recovery time

For those of us dedicated to our training sessions in the gym,
regular massage will...

  • Enhance performance
  • Maximize gains
  • Reduce your risk for injury

Swedish Massage: It is the perfect introductory massage. Swedish massage can be light to firm in pressure or incorporate deeper techniques. Designed to increase the flow of oxygen and nutrient rich blood. It also affects the nervous system to reduce stress levels.

Deep Tissue Massage: It uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage but the pressure will generally be more intense. Deep tissue forces on the deeper tissue structure of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Designed to work on releasing chronic muscle tension or knots.

Hot Stone Massage: Heated, smooth Basalt stones are used to massage and place on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body. The warmth is very comforting and soothing. Designed for people who have muscle tension but prefer a lighter to firm massage.

Sport Massage: Typically used before, during, and after an athletic event or training. Designed to prepare physically active clients for superior performance, drain away fatigue, relieve inflammation, reduce muscle tension, increase range of motion, promote flexibility, prevent injuries, and reducing recovery time.

Trigger Point Therapy: This technique is not a relaxing "fluff and buff" massage. It requires the participation of the client to communicate the presence and intensity of pain and discomfort on a number scale 1-10. The therapist and client work together as a team to maximize the effectiveness of the treatment. It is common to find great improvement after one treatment. Repeated treatment may be necessary for those with chronic trigger points. Stretching should be done as "homework" to encourage the muscles that have been treated to stay in a lengthened position.

Injury Massage: It is used when a client has suffered an injury. To understand how massage helps healing in cases of soft tissue injury, it is important to understand the inflammation process. Inflammation begins because blood circulates to the injured area to bring important chemicals essential for healing. After a period of time, the initial inflammation stops. If applied at this point, massage will increase circulation and promote healing as the increased blood flow brings additional oxygen and nutrients to the injured area. In this way, massage helps bridge the gap between common neglect of injury. Massage can also help stimulate the flow of lymph, the fluid the helps the body remove waste products. Massage can stimulate inactive muscles whose inactivity is due to illness or injury. Deep continuous massage can relieve muscle tension and help prevent painful muscle spasms, which are common following injury. Massage will also stretch and break down fibrous scar tissue that is not healing properly because it is not aligned to the adjoining muscle fibers.

So, regular massage therapy is much more then just a luxury. Rather, it is an investment, an investment in yourself...in your health.
